Stone Oak was Bexar County’s first master-planned community, filed in 1985 on former ranchland north of Loop 1604. Today it’s 35-plus subdivisions, each with its own neighborhood association, and many homes have sprinkler systems that are 20 to 35 years old. Much of Stone Oak sits on the Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone, on hilly ground where the soil can be only a few inches deep over limestone. That affects every part of a sprinkler system:

• Water runs off fast. Thin soil fills up quickly, so long run times waste water down the curb. Cycle-and-soak programming fixes that.
• Trenching means rock. Many lines were laid shallow, and they break more easily.
• Slopes need their own zones and pressure-regulated heads so the bottom of the hill doesn’t get the top’s runoff.

SAWS now requires at least 4 inches of quality topsoil under new sod, which matters if you’re replacing a lawn.

Because Stone Oak is inside the city, San Antonio’s irrigation standards apply:

• New systems must be designed by a Texas licensed irrigator.
• Every in-ground system needs a rain sensor, and systems on drinking water need backflow prevention, tested every year.
• Zones must be separated by plant type, sun, slope and trees.
• New systems need SAWS plan review, and since January 2026, SAWS inspects newly installed systems.

We handle the design, plan submittal and inspection. Many Stone Oak HOAs also have their own landscape rules, and we’ll work within them.

• Sprinkler repair: shallow-line breaks, heads, valves and controllers.
• System renovations for 1990s and 2000s systems.
• New systems with plan review, with a 7-year parts and labor warranty on new installs.
• Drip irrigation and smart controllers.
• Backflow testing by a licensed tester (BPAT BP0018846).
