Schertz has grown fast, from about 31,000 residents in 2010 to more than 42,000 in 2020, and it stretches across three counties from I-35 down past Cibolo Creek. The rules for your yard depend on who supplies your water, and in Schertz that can change from one neighborhood to the next.

Most of Schertz is served by the city, with water from the Carrizo Aquifer through the Schertz-Seguin Local Government Corporation. The city says that supply is not under Stage 1–4 drought restrictions, so SAWS and Edwards Aquifer stages don’t apply. A year-round conservation plan does:

• No sprinkler watering from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., every day.
• Hand-held hoses and drip are allowed any time.
• Runoff into ditches and unrepaired leaks are violations, and private-well users follow the same plan.

Parts of far north and far south Schertz are on Green Valley SUD, which is in Stage 2: sprinklers once a week on your assigned day, before 10 a.m. or after 8 p.m., and never on weekends. GVSUD requires backflow assemblies to be tested at installation and every year after.

Much of Schertz sits on dark Blackland Prairie clay that swells when it’s wet and cracks when it’s dry. That movement breaks fittings and shifts heads out of line, and the clay takes water in slowly, so long run times turn into runoff on the sidewalk. We set shorter, repeated cycles, fix leaks the clay hides, and add drainage where water sits after storms. Lower lots near Cibolo Creek are especially prone to standing water.

• Repairs: broken heads, leaks, valves, wiring and controllers.
• New systems for new builds and replacements, with a 7-year parts and labor warranty on new installs.
• Controller programming for the city’s hours or GVSUD’s schedule.
• Drainage: French drains and downspout lines for clay lots.
• Drip irrigation for beds and foundations.
