Alamo Heights was incorporated in 1922 and built around its trees. Founder George Brackenridge required trees and shrubs to be preserved, and some old trees still stand in the middle of streets. Those trees, along with older homes and the city’s own water rules, make irrigation here different from the rest of San Antonio. All American Irrigation Systems repairs, renovates and installs systems throughout the city. Call (210) 826-6474.

Alamo Heights isn’t on SAWS. The city pumps its own water from six Edwards Aquifer wells and follows Edwards Aquifer Authority stages directly, which makes its rules stricter than SAWS. The city entered Stage 3 on September 22, 2026:

• Landscape watering, automatic or manual, is allowed once every other week, 7–11 a.m. and 7–11 p.m.
• Your day is set by the last digit of your address: 0/1 Monday, 2/3 Tuesday, 4/5 Wednesday, 6/7 Thursday, 8/9 Friday.
• Drip, soaker hoses and small buckets are allowed any day, but only 7–11 a.m. and 7–11 p.m.
• New landscaping can get a three-week variance from the every-other-week schedule.

Because SAWS customers in surrounding neighborhoods water every week, a controller set for SAWS rules is wrong here. Check the city’s water restriction page for which week is a watering week.

Alamo Heights has some of the most specific irrigation rules in our service area:

• A city irrigation permit is required for all new systems and for repairs to existing systems.
• Backflow prevention is required on every irrigation system, with yearly certification.
• Every system must have a rain sensor.
• Systems covering more than 2,500 square feet of turf or landscaping need an irrigation meter.

We pull the permit, install and test the backflow device (BPAT BP0018846), and make sure your rain sensor is working.

Alamo Heights requires a permit for all tree trimming and has a tree mitigation code for heritage trees. Big roots and irrigation trenches don’t mix, so we route lines to avoid critical root zones, use drip for tree rings, and work with your arborist when a system has to pass near a protected tree.

• Sprinkler repair, permitted as the city requires.
• System renovations for older homes, with a 7-year parts and labor warranty on new installs.
• Drip irrigation, which suits the city’s daily drip window.
• Smart controllers set to the every-other-week schedule.
• Backflow installation and annual certification.
